I have a friend who just (well 'just') she put them out a while ago but start with Blood Wager - vampire series.. today (Feb 1) she released a more young adult+ series by the titled Bumble. I haven't read it yet but if Blood Wager is an indication - it should be pretty good. Her websites (done by a certain wiz www.subtledemon.com ) is nice ... I also have a book called Name of the Wind - bigger book but everyone says its as good or better than Lord of the Ring and Harry Potter - haven't started it yet so we'll see.

Name of the Wind is good Wiz, I give it both thumbs up. And I have all those authors in my library too Daze. I gave in and am doing kindle now and i have been slurping up the free library from Baen. Its bloody brilliant!

And wiz, Name of the Wind has a sequel out. it took a long time to come out due to personal issues on his end, but its supposed to be phenomenal also.

Just remember you owe me Tandra. We all need to find a new game to congregate on!

Publisher

baen.com/library/intro.asp

They put CD's of different free books in their books. They're collected here, WITH Baen's permission even.

baencd.thefifthimperium.com/

I've been reading free books from this one lately. Mostly shorter books, not always top shelf, but decent...a few have been very good.

Sadly I don't think Ratti will see the note Zyn. He posted his final farewell quite a while back Sad I think offline life finally caught up to him. :/

Saw Name of the Wind had a sequel. I'm still plowing through the Blood Destiny (starting with Blood Wager) series. It has definitely taken a very sci-fi turn the lead character who is a vampire is now on another planet.. (4th book) I'm actually losing interest since I'm not a sci-fi fan. But for others it probably is great.

I just got my Kindle also and love it with a passion - I was afraid I'd hate it but I read faster with it even it seems. I like the feel of a book in my hand but this works well.

What are these Baen books?

Baen does a mix. A lot of hardcore scifi, with an emphasis on military sci-fi, but also a good amount of fantasy and urban fantasy mixed in. Click the links I put in the previous post, it'll take you to them to check it out. They are fantastic!

All of their ebooks look to be 6 bucks, except for pre-release ones... Advanced Reader Copy (ARC). I just finished a book that wont' actually come out until July. I paid 15 bucks for it and THANKED them for it. They are brilliant when it comes to pricing and all that, especially with the free library teaser. I mean, I got books 1-6 of a series free, i'm sure as heck going to buy book 7 and 8...and the ARC of 9? That wont' be out for 6 months more? ....yes. Yes I am.

THey also have a subscription service...i said it. Subscription. You get to either get the books in chunks, or wait until they are all together...if you don'tl ike sci-fi much though, thats probably not for you. I don't do it etiher... I like sci-fi, but not all the hardcore military crazy stuff they do sometimes.

I got a Kindle Fire the first week it was out. I was doing the Kindle on PC before that. I have been reading a lot of the free classics I never read as a kid, like the whole Wizard of Oz series of books, Peter Pan, and Alice in Wonderland. Yeah, I know. Weird. Then I went on to teen novels like all the Hardy Boys, Tom Swift, and the Three Investigators series. Lot of books there. Now I have graduated to older audience detective books. Trying to read all of the Leslie Charters Saint books. Kind of a second childhood thing I guess. Well, maybe third or fourth. A lot of the classics are available on the Gutenberg site and tons of public domain stuff. I have started rereading the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. If only I could read more quickly. Not like I have an addictive personality or anything. That would mean I could be in trouble Smile

Oh hi everyone!

try out the Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes books - they're very good and typically short-story style. Its not young reader just due to the era it was written in, thus unfamiliar words - but they're good stories.
