Adventure of Betrayal
Looking back on how the whole adventure came about I can see that the signs where there, I was just searching for a push to start on my path of destiny. You see, I grew up as a little Ratonga in Neriak, and as most of you know the city is a dark forbearing place deep inside of a cavern located off of Darklight Woods. The city recently came out of hiding and has started to make its self known to the rest of Norrath… But that is a story for another day.

While making my way to the docks keeping a low profile as normal, you never really want to draw attention to yourself in Neriak if at all possible. I heard a commotion coming from near the housing area. Being the curious Ratonga that I am I had to investigate the source. So drawing the power and of darkness around myself I coated myself in shadows and proceeded to sneak up to see what was happening.

In the dark corners of the alley I witnessed two Dark Elf thugs who were picking on a small child who seemed to be lost. The little child was crying profusely begging them to please allow him to leave and finish the task his master had set him to. Seeing this was the like the last straw in my mood. Without thinking I sneaked up behind the closest one and knocked him over the head incapacitating him instantly.

Upon seeing his comrade at arms the other whipped out a wicked blade from behind his back and proceeded to attack. While engaging the culprit I hissed to the child “Run! I will keep them at bay while you make good your escape.” The child to my astonishment did not move but stood in apparent fright of my deed. After a quick battle I dispatched my opponent and before his comrade awoke I finished him off, making sure no one could connect me to the deaths. Once the corpses were arranged to my satisfaction I turned my attention to the child.

“Why are you still here?” I asked the waif.

“Please forgive me for not fleeing as you told me. I wish to repay you for your kindness, the likes of which I have never seen.” The child whispered looking furiously around to ensure no one could over here his words, “ You seem to be discontented with the way of life here in Neriak. If you wish to meet others of your like you should go seek Magister De’Pater, he shall point you in the direction of those you seek” Once he finished his hurried whispered words the child ran off without another word.

Casting the shadows around myself I crept away from the scene of my crime, according to the laws of Neriak. Once well away I continued on my path toward the docks to do some fishing all the while contemplating what the little waif had said. After much musing on the ideal I made my decision to see what Magister De’Pater had to say. After packing up my catch then selling the days catch at the local market, I headed toward the Spires of Innoruuk to see if I could locate the Magister.

Once reaching the location stated by the child, I noticed the Magister speaking to a gathered group. Once he noticed my approach he motioned me over. I approached the gentleman looking around to see who all noticed me. Once I arrived at his side The Magister motioned away the crowd surrounding him and placed a brotherly arm around me. “Come let us chat.” He said as he pulled me toward a quiet corner. “I hear you helped young Nstlyinden earlier today, at much risk to yourself. Am I correct in assuming that you are not happy with the ways here in Neriak? No do not worry I am also not happy with the ways here also, anything you say to me is between us. If you wish to help others of like mind I would ask that you seek out Inaste Z’Zizin in Darklight Place. We of the rebellion have a need to know of her plans, so we may wreck havoc on them. Once you have located the plans replace them with these and return to me and I shall help you all I may. “ After his speech he shook my hand and returned to his followers.

Upon pondering his words and advice I made my way to the place. Once closer to the Palace I disguised myself and gathered shadows around myself. Quietly I approached her office looking to make sure I was unseen. Listening at her door I discerned that she was alone. Safe in my disguise I released the shadows I rushed into her room. “I am here to report there is a disturbance on the second floor that is in need of your assistance your Honor”. She immediately turned and headed toward the supposed disturbance. Once it was safe I quickly located the documents and switched them with the ones supplied to me.

Drawing shadows around myself I headed back to the Magister, who to my surprise was watching for me along the road back to the Spires. Upon reaching him I handed him the documents which he quickly scanned muttering to himself. “Quick, I have need of your assistance again. It seems that Inaste is planning to have the Reverend Valac assassinated. Please locate him and warn him so he may escape the city! Once he is safe return to me and I shall see if there is more you can do to help.” With his final words the Magister turned and hurried back to his post.

I quickly headed toward the Reverends’ home. Only stopping at Valzapper’s home to ask him if he would assist me on a mission. Once I was close drawing shadows around myself I approached his home. Once closer I could hear sounds of someone not quite as clever as myself approaching the home. The shadowed person, I could not make out what race he or she was, was slowly lifting the window to enter the home. Causally I approached the distracted shadow and attacked. Thrusting quickly I plunged my dagger into his kidney hoping to incapacite him. Even with the deep wound in his back the assassin fought vainly. If not for the help of my friend Valzapper I don’t think I would have been able to survive the fight. Once the assassin was dispatched, I thanked Valzapper for his help and warning him that if his part in this became known his life would be in danger and encouraged him to head home.

Once Valzapper was well away I entered the Reverend’s home warning him of the plot, encouraging him to make his escape from the city quickly. Once convinced of the danger, the Reverend quickly grabbed a bag and headed out thanking me and warning me to be safe. “Meet me outside of the City in Darklight woods once you grab your things. I shall help you once there. It is best if we escape the city separately so as to not draw attention to ourselves. “

Taking heed of his warning I quickly headed toward the city gates. Narrowly avoiding disaster numerous times as I saw other assassins’ searching for someone. Were these rouges searching for me or the Reverend I cannot say. But to be safe I avoided them all. Once I escaped the city I approached the Reverend congratulating him on his quick safe escape.

“I truly appreciate your assistance this day. I know that in assisting me you have severed all ties to Neriak and have made yourself hated in the city. Being homeless is not what will happen to you this day. Come I will show you to Haven, it is the home of those who do not swear allegiance to Neriak nor Qeynos.” With this said he turned and headed toward the woods of Nektulos Forrest.

Once we arrived at the entrance I was discouraged to find that Haven was underground. Sighing softly to myself I realized I had traded one dark place for another, when all I wanted was to live in a place that was not so dark and depressing. Upon noticing my disappointment in the city of Haven the Reverend asked “So you want to live in a place that is bright and not underground do you? Well you have options of other places. You can travel to Greater Faydark and earn the trust of the Fae there and live in the trees or you can travel to Qeynos and earn trust with the Citizens of the city. There are no homes under ground, well other than the burrows the Halflings choose to live in.”

“The city of Qeynos sounds like it might be the best fit for me. Would you know of a person I can approach to start earning the trust of the citizens there? “ I asked eagerly, thinking that a city that has bright places to live would be a great fit for me. “Why of course you can approach Gil McMartin, who is stationed in The Commonlands outside of the city of North Freeport. He is always searching for others to help him in sabotaging the efforts of the City to hinder the city of Qeynos.”

Thanking the Reverend for his advice I set out toward the Commonlands in search of Gil McMartin. After traveling for many days. I found a traveling partner by the name of Valengren who was in search of things to do. I informed him of where I was heading and he decided to travel along with me. “I don’t want to see this Gil McMartin but I will help you with whatever it is he wants you to do. Just remember. I was never there!” replied Valengren. Once the details were worked out we continued on searching for my contact.

After a few days of helping Gil, he said “Well done child! We have really set the Citizens of Freeport back and you have earned the trust of the city of Qeynos. If you travel to the city of South Qeynos and search out Vishra who is generally found in the area of the Concordium Tower. He will assist you in settling into your new home”

Again I set out happy with how I was changing my life. Once I reached the city I traveled around marveling at how beautiful the city was in comparison to the darkness of Neriak. When I tired of my sightseeing I searched out Vishra. After completing his simple tasks compared to all the ones Gil had send me on. Vishra congratulated me on becoming a Citizen of Qeynos, drawing me a map to the city trainers, informing me that if I choose they would allow me to change professions, he encouraged me to seek them out and see if there were any new skills they could teach me.

While on my way to the villa of Elder Grove, I made the decision to change my profession. I figured since I was changing cities why not change to another profession. So once I found the trainer and listening to him explain that once I changed I would not be able to undo this change. I became a Dirge.
