Also the siren call of every election I can remember is, "we need someone other then the typical DC insider."
You can't get much more outside the beltway then Sarah Palin. Win or lose, I think (hope) this campaign shakes up American politics.
It always drives me crazy that every campaign seems to start with both sides stating and trying to stay away from the typical campaign. The bottom line though, is they all have skeletons, they all have voting records, they all have special interests. I submit it's entirely impossible to break away from a typical campaign because of these things, and if a candidate does manage to keep away from these things, then they will lose, period.
American's cry out, give us something different, but then when they get something different the cynicism creeps in, and they suspect that something is wrong, that something this different can't be good, and they fall back on what they know.
I think Palin will inject something different, and win or lose, it will be ok to really say what you think, and it will be a good thing to take a stand on something whether or not everyone agrees with you. Can people have different values and still respect one another? I think Palin on the ticket, as a complete breath of fresh air, will cause voters to face their own prejudices when it comes to demanding one thing, a fresh change, but voting for another.
Of course, I'm an eternal optimist, and God willing, will be until the day I die

And as stated, I'm an unabashed Palin fan.
She's light on foreign policy, very experienced on energy and fiscal management. Savy on balancing environmentalism with development of natural resources. And she will stand (win or lose) on her own values of family and social issues. She's not going to hem and haw, and try to give an all inclusive message. Like I said before, you will love her or hate her.
