#1: sculptures, action figures? Author: Pyper, Location: Lexington, SCPosted: Tue Apr 07, 2009 10:51 am ---- fievall [sean] and i are getting married right? well we want the cake topper to be fievall and pyper. we think that would be totally super cool. even my mother thinks that would be totally super cool...i've searched online and i cannot find anyone who makes custom action figures or sculptures that would be anywhere near what my standards for this are going to be...maybe i just haven't found the right site. rock band has some setup where you can get them to make your actual character [obviously from rock band] for about $60 but sean says eq2 would see this as copyright infringement or some such even if the company i guess agreed to do it which i doubt they would, i'm going to e-mail them anyways. i'm trying to find someone with a 3d printer who wants to print up two adorable rats...any comments/suggestions on this would be so greatly appreciated!
thanks!

found this site that seems promising. http://www.fabjectory.com/ not quite sure whether or not the result will look that great though after going through some of their galleries.
#3: Re: sculptures, action figures? Author: Wizairde, Posted: Tue Apr 07, 2009 3:16 pm ---- Honestly.. for a Wedding.. (listen to your Fab One!) I'd go bronze/brass/pewter (though I don't know what your wedding colors are)
www.farrisincentives.com/pewter.htm I don't know this company this is just an example.. Also - you'll need something that can support the weight of such an item... hmm brass plus cake + frosting = sinkage. But if you had the cake topped in a plastic plate then icing over it - no problem. (You save that for a year later anyhow.. right?) Anyhow.. any cake decorator will know how to support the statues' weight. The last tiered cake I touched went slumping to the floor.. so its not my turf. lol (yes it was a wedding cake.. no it wasn't my fault... yes we stuck roses in the icing cracks.. sigh)
Barring that - any kind of trophy shop can go the plastic route also I believe.
I have no idea how much you will fork out for either option. The pewter/bronze statue option would end up making a really neat curio cabinet type item later on. *shrug*
Could always go wooden sculpture too..

Author: Singinliz, Location: Southern IndianaPosted: Tue Apr 07, 2009 4:18 pm ---- Not sure exactly what you are wanting or how much you want to spend etc but I would be willing to bet if you took a whole series of screen shots of your chars in high res and printed them (you know, front, back, side, couple random view angles) that any decent sculpture artist could make a clay cast and do a ceramic mold and you or whoever could paint a bunch of them for table settings. The cake could be a straight sculpture.
At worst you could silkscreen the pictures on to something and put that on the cake. Maybe a silk heart with ruffles.
Just rambling as usual here but hopefully there is something useful in the ramblings.

thanks so much for the input!
#6: Re: sculptures, action figures? Author: Wizairde, Posted: Tue Apr 07, 2009 7:57 pm ---- they have those plates though and the pillars that support each tier could cook in.. like I said.. i don't have those 'l33t skills..
#7: Re: sculptures, action figures? Author: Fievall, Posted: Wed Apr 08, 2009 11:13 am ---- not to worried about the weight.. we both watch food network all the time.. and the trick that is used is wooden dowels placed in the cake that go down to the base.. and you place your topper on top of the dowel structure and the weight becomes a non issue =) so metal toppers become something that can work.. to be honest we hadn't thought of that direction.. so thanks =)
