If you are any kind of literature nut... check out all the Jasper Fforde books.. he's hysterical and very clever.

He has two series.... the Nursey Crimes one which is funny stuff like who really murdered humpty dumpty (not for kids) and then he has he Thursday Next series which he takes everything from Jane Eyre to Gond with the Wind and uses them as a backdrop for a detective series. Pretty good stuff.
